Lighting Products

Reduction of energy consumption via the introduction of lighting energy efficiency is simple, cost effective and produces great energy savings. More importantly, lighting energy efficiency is very easy to implement, savings are simple to calculate and the payback period on many lighting projects is very attractive.

The business target for energy savings coupled with the business budget will determine the budget size and complexity of the project.

Blue Green Engineering offers the following lighting solutions:

Replacement of twin fluorescent light fittings with a single light tube with highly reflective fitting.

Standard twin fluorescent light fittings have two fluorescent tubes. This style of lighting is not very efficient in transferring light to where it is required. This energy efficiency measure can make significant energy savings of possible up to 60%. Payback periods are typically around three years, depending on operating hours and price of electricity.

Replacement of T8 fluorescent tubes with more efficient T5 tubes via a T5-T8 conversion kit.

This is a simple energy efficiency measure which does not require replacement of the whole light fitting. Savings are approximately 30% and payback period is around 2.5 years, depending on operational hours and electricity price.

LED lighting

The technology for LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting has matured and the price has decreased. There are LED light replacements for commercial, retail and industrial applications. There are LED light replacements for halogen downlights, fluorescent tubes, incandescent lights, floodlights and industrial-type high bay lights.

By changing all existing lights in the premises to more efficient LED options, the energy bill can be reduced by up to 40%, depending on the size and layout of the premises. Energy efficient LED lights consume 85% less power than standard halogen downlights and outlast halogen downlights by 10 times. Hence, LED lights do not only save energy, but they also reduce maintenance cost. (see comparison table adjacent).

CFL

Compact fluorescent lights (CFL) may be used for various applications such as replacement of incandescent lights and floodlights.

Lighting controls

Lighting controls range from simple analogue controllers to advanced digital lighting controls. The main function of lighting controls is to switch off lights or reduce lighting levels according to various external factors when artificial lighting is not required. Lighting controls may also be used to improve the ‘daylight harvesting’ features of a building.

Total lighting solutions

Total lighting solutions are necessary when an existing lighting layout of a space cannot deliver the required lighting levels or the required energy savings. Existing poor lighting design may be attributed to original (possibly outdated) design, to changes made to the internal space fit-out layout or to changes to the immediate external environment (e.g. the construction of new tall buildings that may block solar access). Whatever the condition of your lighting layout, Blue Green Engineering can reduce lighting energy consumption and maintain or improve on existing lighting levels.

Daylight solutions

Blue Green Engineering can provide solutions that combine the use of daylight and artificial lighting. The incorporation of daylight is very important and studies have shown that daylight improves people’s productivity at the workspace.
